COVID-19 Omicron Variant Symptoms: India has recorded 213 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across 15 states and UTs so far out of which 90 people have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. With the rising number of Omicron cases in India, people are concerned about the symptoms of this new COVID-19 variant.

Dr Deshdeepak, Senior Chest Physician at the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital informed ANI, "Omicron has been labelled as a Variant of Concern by the WHO. Almost 90 countries have been affected by now. It appears to be highly transmissible. As of now, Delta variant is the most prevalent strain in the world but with high transmissibility, Omicron may take over the Delta variant."
India will have Omicron's third wave but it will be milder than the second wave, as per an early ANI report, Vidyasagar who is the head of the National COVID-19 Supermodel Committee, noted that the third wave is likely to arrive early next year.
A Reuters report on December 14, 2021, informed that WHO told Reuters via mail that it was not clear yet if the Omicron variant was more transmissible or causes more severe disease compared to the other variants.
The Reuters report further stated most of the Omicron cases in the United States had only mild symptoms such as coughing, congestion and fatigue. Other symptoms reported less frequently included nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, diarrhea and loss of taste or smell.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified a new variant of SARS-CoV-2. It has been named as Omicron. The B.1.1.529 variant was first reported to WHO from South Africa on 24th November 2021. The epidemiological situation in South Africa has been characterized by three distinct peaks in reported cases, the latest of which was predominantly the Delta variant.
