Delhi Metro services to resume soon? Here is what the government said

The Delhi Metro service was shut down over two months back as the coronavirus situation started to get worse in the national capital. With both the state and Central governments giving some relaxations, people have been predicting different dates for the resumption of Delhi Metro services. However, against the common cry on social media platforms, the restoration of services will take at least a few more days.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot has made it clear that there is no confirmation yet on resumption of Delhi Metro rail services.

"Whenever such a direction comes, DMRC will require a minimum of 2 days for preparations," Kailash Gahlot said.

Minister also made it clear that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government wants metro train services to be started again soon. The Delhi High Court, last week, had declined for the time being to order resumption of metro rail services in the national capital saying adequate public transport has been permitted to be operated by the AAP government for the public at large.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has directed the health department to ramp up medical infrastructure and to ensure availability of beds and oxygenation facilities, keeping in view general trends and probable scenarios. Baijal held a video conference with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, Health Minister Satyendar Jain along with Chief Secretary, Commissioner of Police and senior officers to review the situation of COVID-19 in the national capital.

"Health Department to ramp up medical infrastructure, ensure availability of hospital beds and oxygenation facilities keeping in view general trends and probable scenarios. Effective IEC (Information, Education and Communication) and surveillance measures are important to contain the spread," the LG said in a tweet.
