Kejriwal in his address to the people of Delhi said that the situation was alarming and people in large numbers were getting infected with the virus in this second wave. The CM today said that the lockdown was called on 20 April 2021 as the cases started increasing in the national capital.

The government had to call for a lockdown as the cases were continuously rising in Delhi, the CM said.
The chain of infection somewhat started decreasing from 26 April and the positivity rate has now come down to 23 per cent from a high of 35 per cent, Kejriwal said. The cases have started declining, he further said.
The CM said that though the positive rate has come down to 23 per cent, the rate is still very high adding that it will not be correct to ease restrictions. The restrictions need to be extended for some more days, the Delhi CM said.
The CM went on to say that the period of lockdown was utilized to create the requisite infrastructure to deal with the pandemic.
The Chief Minister said that the situation regarding the oxygen requirements in the state has improved over the last few days with both Centre and Government of NCT working together.
On Vaccination – The Delhi Government has requested the Centre to provide adequate number of vaccines.
