Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to issue quarantine guidelines on Omicron on December 23; important meeting scheduled to review situation
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that he will issue quarantine guidelines on Omicron related issues on December 23, 2021. Four cases of Omicron have been reported in Kerala after Delhi.
Omicron in Delhi Latest News: On Monday, two more Omicron cases have been reported in Delhi taking the total tally to 24, as per a PTI report. Furthermore, 12 patients have also been discharged.

Four cases of Omicron have been reported in Kerala after Delhi. The highest number of infections, 54, has been reported in Maharashtra till now. There has been a total number of 161 Omicron patients in the country so far and it has spread across 12 states of the country.
It has to be noted that on Sunday, December 19, 2021, Delhi reported 107 new coronavirus cases as per the Delhi government's health bulletin. Also, one death was also reported taking the total toll to 25,101. This was the highest single-day spike in the national capital since June 25, 2021.
During the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Delhi was one of the worst affected places in the country. India will have Omicron's third wave but it will be milder than the second wave, as per an ANI report, M Vidyasagar who is the head of the National COVID-19 Supermodel Committee . He noted that the third wave is likely to arrive early next year.
Today, after the DDMA (Delhi Disaster Management Authority) meeting was held in Delhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said thatt hey have decided to now send all positive cases of COVID-19 in Delhi for genome testing. News agency PTI tweeted, "We have decided to now send all positive cases of COVID-19 in Delhi for genome testing: Kejriwal."
In a subsequent tweet, PTI said, "We will strengthen home isolation system as most new Covid cases will not require hospitalisation: Delhi CM Kejriwal."
The Delhi Chief Minister has also advised, "No need to panic in view of Omicron threat, we have adequate arrangements at hospitals if there is any spread of new Covid variant." Kejriwal has also appealed to the Centre to allow administration of Covid vaccine booster dose in Delhi.
In another important update, an important meeting between representatives of Ministry of Aviation and Ministry of Health today has been scheduled. This meeting will discuss the status of Omicron and the list of countries Risk at will also be reviewed. Furthermore, from today, visitors from 'at-risk' countries will have to make mandatory bookings RT-PCR tests.
As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare India recorded 6,563 new cases in the last 24 hours on Monday. Omicron, a new variant of SARS-CoV-2, has caught the attention of the government as the World Health Organisation (WHO) has termed it as a variant of concern. According to Manindra Agarwal, IIT scientist involved in the mathematical projection of trajectory of COVID-19, the third wave of coronavirus could hit the peak by February with cases likely to be reaching up to 1-1.5 lakh a day due to Omicron. However, it will be milder than the second wave, he told to PTI.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified a new variant of SARS-CoV-2. It has been named as Omicron. The Technical Advisory Group on SARS-CoV-2 Virus Evolution (TAG-VE) is an independent group of experts that periodically monitors and evaluates the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 and assesses if specific mutations and combinations of mutations alter the behaviour of the virus, WHO has informed.
The B.1.1.529 variant was first reported to WHO from South Africa on November 24 2021. The epidemiological situation in South Africa has been characterized by three distinct peaks in reported cases, the latest of which was predominantly the Delta variant.
