Delhi airport (IGIA) named world's best airport, beats Singapore’s Changi Airport, Shanghai's Pudong!

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has been named as the world’s best airport in the Airport Service Quality Programme (ASQ) 2019 rankings, a GMR Group release said. The IGIA is run by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a GMR-led consortium.

IGIA was awarded "once again" as the best airport in the over 40 million passengers per annum (MPPA) category in Asia Pacific by Airports Council International (ACI), the release said.

IGI Airport which handled around 69 million passengers in 2019 was pitted against some of the biggest airports in the Asia-Pacific region including Singapore’s Changi Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the release said.
 
“We are proud to see the continued recognition received by Delhi Airport in Airport Service Quality over the past several years. DIAL has once again consolidated its position on the world aviation map," Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO-DIAL said.

"This award is a testimony of continued improvements in passenger-service that Delhi Airport has witnessed since DIAL took over its operations in 2006. The award demonstrates DIAL's strong focus on operational efficiencies and resilient approach towards service delivery," he added.

The Airport had retained the position of World No 2 for three consecutive years till 2013, the release said adding that the IGIA captured the top position in the 25-40 MPPA in 2014 while retaining the position in 2015.
 
The airport stood at the second spot in 40 million passengers and above category in 2016 while retaining the position till 2018.

Delhi’s IGI Airport is undergoing a "major expansion of its overall infrastructure which will further enhance the passenger experience," the release claims.
