'Covid is not over yet': Health minister directs authorities to strengthen surveillance after spurt in Coronavirus cases globally

COVID-19 Meeting Outcome: In view of the sudden spurt in cases in some parts of the world, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya held a meeting on Wednesday and reviewed the status of COVID-19 cases in the country. The minister directed the authorities to be vigilant and strengthen surveillance, however, there was no change in screening rules for travelers arriving from countries like China that have registered a massive spike in the number of Covid cases and severity.
"In view of rising cases of #COVID19 in some countries, reviewed the situation with experts and officials today. COVID is not over yet. I have directed all concerned to be alert and strengthen surveillance. We are prepared to manage any situation," Union Health Minister tweeted.

After Union Health Minister's meeting on COVID, Member (Health) of NITI Aayog VK Paul said that only 27-28% of people have so far taken precaution dose of Covid-19 vaccine. "We appeal to others, especially senior citizens, to take precaution dose," he said, and added, "Precaution dose is mandated and guided to everyone."
"In view of the increase in cases in certain countries around the world, it is instructed to use a mask if someone is in a crowded place, indoors or outdoors. This is all the more important for people with comorbidities or those of higher age," he further stated.
Stringent screening and other measures were expected due to the spike in Coronavirus cases in China and some other countries, but the Niti Aayog member informed that, as of now, there is no change with regard to aviation.

The secretaries of Health, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Department of Biotechnology, Ayush, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Rajiv Bahl, Member (Health) of NITI Aayog Dr V K Paul and National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) Chairman Dr N K Arora attended the meeting among other officials, according to PTI.
