The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made a big announcement for vehicles carrying oxygen cylinders during COVID-19 pandemic. In order to ensure smooth supply of oxygen, the Ministry has decided to extend waiver of permit requirements for Transport category of vehicles carrying oxygen cylinders during COVID-19 pandemic up to September 30, 2021.

Informing about the same through a gazette, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH India) took to Twitter and said, "MoRT&H has extended waiver of permit requirements for Transport category of vehicles carrying oxygen cylinders during COVID-19 pandemic up to 30 Sept 2021. This will ensure smooth supply of oxygen, an important item needed for treatment of COVID-19, across the country."
"We have approved the extension of exemption to the requirement of permit under Motor Vehicles Act 1988 to 30th September 2021 for vehicles transporting oxygen cylinders," Road Transport, Highways and MSMEs Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet.
He said this will facilitate the carriage and movement of oxygen between the states and will strengthen our fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier on September 21, 2020, the Ministry had issued a notification for exemption of permit requirements for such vehicles till March 31, 2021, following reports of problems being faced by vehicle operators carrying oxygen cylinders/tanks.
The step has been taken to ensure smooth movement of vehicles for the supply of oxygen across the country.
