Covid-19: Over 1 lakh active cases in Kerala; accounts for 51% cases in the country, says Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan informed that Kerala has more than 1 lakh active cases of Covid-19 and accounts for 51 percent of the cases in the country.
The central government on Thursday, August 24, 2021, informed that Kerala has more than 1 lakh active cases of Covid-19 while Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have 10,000 to 1 lakh active cases.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that Kerala contributes to 51 percent, Maharashtra 16 percent and rest of the three states contribute to 4-5 percent of the cases in the country.

While speaking about the Covid-19 cases reported in the country in the last 24 hours, he said that 46,000 new cases were reported out of which 58 percent were reported from Kerala. However, he said that rest of the states are still showing a declining trend in the cases.

Speaking on vaccine doses, the health secretary said, "It is important to note that 80 lakh doses of vaccine were administered in the country in the last 24 hours. As we speak, more than 47 lakh doses have been administered so far today," as quoted by ANI.

He also informed that so far over 400 people (from Afghanistan) have been brought on flights and arrangements have been made at all the airports - be it civil airports or military airbases - to administer anti-polio vaccine to them because Pakistan and Afghanistan have wild polio, he added.
