In an interaction with ANI, Dr. Wig pointed out, "We do not have to let the third wave come in the way the second wave came in. We need to keep the positivity rate in the districts less than 5 per cent and less than 1 per cent in the villages." He further explained the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic is a 'dynamic situation' and in order to prevent the third wave, it is absolutely needful to keep changing the strategies. He even drew an analogy with cricket to make the matter simple. "The COVID crisis is like a Test match, it is not a One-Day match. We have to keep changing our strategies all the time. It is such a dynamic situation that no one formula will take care of this," he said.
Dr. Wig also highlighted the importance of public support in preventing the disease. He said that people need to understand this disease and how this happens without the participation of the public, it will not be possible to prevent the disease. He further informed that people lacked COVID appropriate behaviour after the first wave and this behavourial change has led to the second wave. He warned that all must wear masks all the time, irrespective of the fact that one is vaccinated or not.
According to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Friday, the country reported 2,59,591 fresh COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours and 4209 COVID-related deaths. Also, 3,57, 295 people recovered from the disease across the country over the last 24 hours.
