Providing some amount of relief to the people, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved Covaxin for the second and the third phase of clinical trials for children between the age of 2 and 18 years.
COVID-19 Latest News: Providing some amount of relief to the people, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved Covaxin for the second and the third phase of clinical trials for children between the age of 2 and 18 years. Dr. VK Paul, Member-Health, Niti Aayog while responding to this assured that they are examining the reports on this particular variant regarding COVID-19 among children.

Dr. Paul said, "We are examining report you're referring to about particular variant.. Regarding COVID-19 among children.. it is reassuring that they don't get serious infection.. We are keeping an eye on this." He also added that the trials for second and third phase trails of Covaxin for children aged between 2 and 18 years will commence within the next 10 to 12 days.

While addressing a press conference, Dr. Paul said, "Covaxin has been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), for Phase 2/3 clinical trials in the age group of 2 to 18 years. I have been told that trials will begin in the next 10-12 days." Regarding the 'anti-COVID drug 2DG' developed by DRDO, Dr. Paul informed that Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has granted the permission for emergency use and the drug will be examined in COVID-19 National Task Force for adding it to the treatment protocol.
According to the data released by the Union Health Ministry on May 19, India recorded the highest single day COVID-19 fatalities with 4529 new deaths in the last 24 hours. However, the country's daily spike in the number of coronavirus cases remained the three-lakh mark for the third consecutive day as India recorded 2,67,334 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.
