On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court has suggested the Centre for a door-to-door vaccination initiative as per a report by india.com. A division bench consisting of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni asked the Union government why not pro-actively start this programme when the lives of senior citizens, who are unable to go to vaccination centres to get inoculated, are concerned.
As per an ANI tweet, the country has reported 3,62,727 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours as per the Union Health Ministry. There has also been 3,52,181 discharges and 4120 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The central government had announced that the adults between 18 and 44 years of age will be included in the COVID-19 vaccination drive that started from May 1, 2021. The COVID-19 vaccination drives for those above 60 years and 45 years of age had already started earlier.
As on May 12, 2021, as many as 5,62,14,942 doses of the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered for those who are between the age group 45 and 60 as per ANI. In case of the second dose, over 81,31,218 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered for the 45 to 60 years old. In case of the citizens who are above 60 years of age, 5,40,88,334 doses of the first dose have been given and 1,67,64,979 doses of the second dose have been administered.
Coming back to the suggestion by Bombay High Court, it said that if the central government had started a door-to-door vaccination programme for senior citizens a few months back, then lives of many citizens, including prominent persons could have been saved.
