Covid cases in India today, April 20: India recorded 12,591 new coronavirus cases in a day, the highest in around eight months, while the active case have increased to 65,286, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday, April 20.
The death toll has increased to 5,31,230 with 40 fatalities, which includes 11 reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.
The total tally of Covid cases was recorded at 4.48 crore. The daily positivity rate was 5.46 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was 5.32 per cent.
Active cases now comprise 0.15 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.67 per cent, according to the health ministry website.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has surged to 4,42,61, 476 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent.
According to the ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
Covid cases in Lucknow, Covid cases in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest single-day spike in the last 10 months with 910 fresh Covid cases, and Lucknow alone accounted for 245 of them. The state reported three new Covid deaths -- one each from Ghaziabad, Meerut and Mainpuri, according to official data on Wednesday.
After Lucknow, Gautam Buddha Nagar (142), Ghaziabad (117) and Meerut (28) reported the most cases even as 613 patients recovered in the same period.
In the state capital, Chinhat and NK Road reported 38 each, Alambagh 31, Aliganj 29, Indira Nagar 17, Chowk 16 and Gosainganj 5.
This pushed the city`s active cases to 1,027, the highest this year, data from the office of the chief medical officer of Lucknow said.
On an average, 3,000 Covid samples were being tested daily, mostly through the RT-PCR method.
Dr M.K. Singh, the in-charge of vaccination in the city, said: "The second vaccine dose has been administered to 100 per cent eligible beneficiaries in Lucknow. Many people have taken the third dose as well."
In a 24-hour period recently, the state tested 58,758 samples for Covid. Uttar Pradesh has, so far, reported 21,36,380 Covid cases and 23,663 deaths.
