COVID-19 Vaccines to Pregnant Women Guidelines: The COVID-19 vaccination is going on the country in full swing. However, there have been certain queries among the people regarding the vaccination of pregnant women. On Monday, the Union Ministry of Health has issued fresh guidelines for administering COVID-19 vaccines to pregnant women. The Ministry informed which pregnant women are at a higher risk of suffering from severe illness due to COVID-19 and if the mother's illness will impact the birth of the baby.

According to an ANI report, the Union Ministry of Health informed that pregnancy does not increase the risk of COVID-19 infection. The Ministry further added, "Most pregnant women will be asymptomatic or have a mild disease, but their health may deteriorate rapidly and that might affect the foetus too." As a result, it is important that they must take all precautions against COVID-19 , including COVID-19 vaccination. 

Though if a pregnant woman gets infected with the COVID-19 disease, in most of the cases, the woman will recover without any need for hospitalisation. However, the Union Ministry of Health also informed that rapid deterioration may occur in few. The symptomatic pregnant women who appear to be at increased risk of severe disease and death. In case of severe disease, pregnant women will also have to be hospitalised like all other COVID-19 patients. 

The pregnant women with underlying medical conditions like high blood pressure, obesity and those who are above 35 years of age are at a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 infection. 

There are also certain doubts regarding the new-born babies amidst this COVID-19 pandemic. The Union Ministry of Health informed that more than 95 per cent of the newborn babies from COVID-19 positive mothers have been in good condition at birth. One thing must also be noted that COVID-19 infection during pregnancy may raise the possibility of a pre-mature delivery. In that case, the baby's weight might be less than 2.5 kg and in rare cases, the baby might decease before birth. 

It must be noted that the women who are older than 35 years, obese women having pre-existing illness like diabetes or high blood pressure and a history of blood clotting in the limbs are at a higher risk of developing complications after COVID-19 disease. 

In case, a woman has been infected with the disease during the current pregnancy then the person should be vaccinated soon after the delivery.
