The country has registered 3,82,315 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours as per the union health ministry this morning. Maharashtra is one of the most adversely affected state in the country. On Monday, the state reported 48,621 new COVID-19 cases as per ANI. However, Tuesday brought some relief for this state which has been recording a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases for weeks now.

The relief comes for Maharashtra which has recorded a sharp fall in the number of COVID-19 cases as per a report by india.com. 

An official from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that Mumbai on Tuesday reported 2,554 fresh coronavirus positive cases and 62 deaths, taking the count of infections to 661,420 and the toll to 13,470. This was the second consecutive day that the country’s financial capital has recorded less than 3,000 cases.

Earlier on Tuesday, the health minister of the state Rajesh Tope also stated that the positivity rate in the state has dropped from 27 per cent to 22 per cent while addressing the media. "We’re testing 2.80 lakh persons daily and there’s been no shortage in testing. From 63,000, tally for COVID patients have come down to 61,000. At 84.07%, our recovery rate is highest in country", he added. 

This fall has come after more than a month's spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the state.

This western state of India had imposed lockdown-like restrictions in the state from April 15, 2021 amid a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. It further extended the lockdown for 15 days till May 15, 2021. 

As the country is witnessing a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, several other states are also imposing similar restrictions to control the spread of the disease.
