Aviation: Hindon Airport Ghaziabad to connect these four Indian cities from January 26; Details here

The much-awaited Hindon Airport is nearing its completion and the authorities have submitted the route details to the government. The airport located in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad will serve only four cities to start with. According to a Hindustan report, the airport will connect Nashik, Pithoragarh, Hubli and Kannur in the first phase. The airport is expected to take the load off the Delhi Airport. The government is gearing up to open the airport for public starting January 26, 2019.

The construction of the civil terminal for the Hindon Airport is in full swing at Sikandarpur village. The Airport Authority of India has said that the work will get completed by January 15. The PWD has also stepped up the construction of the road connecting to the terminal.

The government has taken the land on lease from farmers for three years to build the terminal. The state government will bear the expenses of road construction, airport security, and fire services among others.

The AAI is spending around Rs 45 crore to build the civil terminal at Hindon Airport. The civil terminal will be able to handle 300 passengers per hour. The terminal will have all facilities including concourse, baggage handling system and commercial shops.

Flight traffic at Delhi Airport has increased tremendously in recent years. The airport is finding it difficult to accommodate flights under government's Regional Connectivity Scheme - UDAN. The Hindon Airport will make space for these flights reducing the flight congestion at the Delhi airport.
