Andhra Pradesh 2024 Assembly and Lok Sabha Elections Dates: ECI announces schedule for Andhra Pradesh polls

In a significant announcement on Saturday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) disclosed that the voting for the 175-member Andhra Pradesh assembly will occur in a single phase. Voters across the state will exercise their franchise on May 13, with the counting of votes slated for June 4. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar shared this crucial information, marking a pivotal moment in the state's democratic process.

The schedule for the Andhra Pradesh assembly polls is as follows:

Issue of notification: April 18
Last date of notification: April 25
Scrutiny of nomination: April 26
Last date of withdrawal of candidature: April 29
Date of poll: May 13
Results: June 4

During the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, the ruling YSRCP secured 151 seats out of the 175-member assembly, while the TDP managed only 23. However, the TDP's count decreased to 19 following the resignation of Ganta Srinivas Rao and the defection of three MLAs to the YSRCP post-election.

The 2019 polls marked the first elections in Andhra Pradesh since the state's bifurcation in 2014, which led to the formation of Telangana. The current term of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, under the leadership of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, is set to conclude in April.
