11 Covid 19 patients die due to 'reduction in pressure of oxygen supply' in Andhra Pradesh's hospital; CM Jagan Mohan Reddy orders inquiry

Eleven Covid 19 patients died at a state-run hospital in Andhra Pradesh allegedly after reduction in pressure of oxygen supply on Monday evening. The incident took place at Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia Hospital (SVRR) in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, around 8:30 PM last night. It is also reported that 5 patients were in critical condition.

"Andhra Pradesh: 11 patients died in Ruia Govt Hospital Tirupati due to a reduction in pressure of oxygen supply, says Chittoor District Collector Harinarayan. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered an inquiry into the matter," said news agency ANI. 

An oxygen tanker coming to the hospital from Chennai in Tamil Nadu was delayed, due to which 11 patients who were on ventilator support lost their lives, said Harinarayan. "This happened in a span of five minutes. The oxygen tanker arrived and the situation was quickly brought under control,” Chittoor District Collector added.

Several hospitals from across the country have been reporting shortage of oxygen supply, despite the government claiming that there is no such crisis and it is further augmenting oxygen supply. Earlier, several patients have succumbed due to shortage of oxygen as hospitals expressed their helplessness and demanded the governments to ensure oxygen supply. 

Only recently, Jaipur Golden Hospital had told the Delhi High Court that 25 patients admitted to its critical care unit died due to shortage of oxygen. "We are literally gasping for breath," Jaipur Golden Hospital had said in its plea.
