Odisha Class 10 Board Exam 2021 Cancel News: Keeping in view the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha has cancelled the class 10 board exams as per a report by The Times of India.

A large number of students staged protest on Tuesday in front of the Chief Minister's residence as per a report by PTI seeking cancellation of the matriculation exams for the class 10 board exam candidates.

Incidentally, last week, the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered the suspension of all class 10 and class 12 board exams in view of the COVID-19 situation in the state. He further announced that the class 9 and class 11 students will be promoted to the next classes without any tests. The Chief Minister's office informed, "All students of Class 9 and Class 11 in the academic year 2020-21 will be promoted to the 10th and 12th standards respectively. They do not have to take any tests for this."

Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the cancellation of class 10 board exams last week. The class 12 board exams have been postponed as of now and a decision regarding the revised schedule for the class 12 board exams will be taken after a thorough review of the COVID-19 situation in the country on June 1, 2021.

After the decision by CBSE, the CISCE and several other state boards have resorted to similar decisions. Yesterday, the Maharashtra government has also decided to cancel class 10 board exams and postpone class 12 board exams till the end of May.

When various class 10 board exams are being cancelled, the authorities are looking at alternate options to evaluate the students. The CBSE and the CISCE boards are deciding upon an objective criterion to compile the results for the class 10 board exam candidates.

Regarding yesterday's protests in Odisha, students argued that there is no clarity by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) which conducts the annual matriculation or class 10 examinations in the state. The BSE had earlier put on hold the examination and did not clarify whether the examination will be held in coming days or cancelled in view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation.
