New Education Policy 2020: Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal to hold high-level meeting for NEP's ‘faster implementation’ today

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will chair a high-level meeting with the officials concerned to review the progress made in the implementation of New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 today, January 11. The Union cabinet in July 2020 had approved the New Education Policy (NEP) with an aim to universalise education from pre-school to secondary level.
The minister will be holding the meeting today at 4pm. Informing about the scheduled meeting, Ramesh Pokhriyal tweeted, “Tomorrow at 4 PM, I will be chairing a high-level meeting to review the progress made regarding the implementation of#NEP2020. #NationalEducationPolicy #NEPTransformingIndia.”

The review meeting comes after report suggested that New Education Policy could not be implemented as expected due to covid 19 situation.
A senior official of the Education Ministry on condition of anonymity told ANI, "Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the implementation of NEP could not progress as per expectation. Now, the situation is getting normal and higher education institutes, as well as senior classes in schools, have started resuming. So, it is a good time to review the progress regarding NEP for faster implementation."

NEP-2020 will replace the National Policy on Education-1986.
The new education policy was approved with an objective of universalisation of education from pre-school to secondary level.
New education policy is a comprehensive framework for elementary education to higher education as well as vocational training in both rural and urban India. The policy aims to transform India's education system by 2021. The policy aims to enable an individual to study one or more specialised areas of interest at a deep level, and also develop character, scientific temper, creativity, the spirit of service, and 21st-century capabilities across a range of disciplines including sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities, among others.
