NEET, JEE, CUET merger news: What UGC proposed and how will this help students - All details here
Students will not be required to manage dates, exam centers and more logistics problems.
NEET, JEE, CUET merger news: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has mooted a proposal to merge NEET and JEE into Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG). The commission has sent a proposal to integrate NEET and JEE exams into the CUET.
The UGC will form a committee to consult with various stakeholders to take forward the proposal. The proposal says that students can take the test just once and choose from a variety of subjects of study.
For now, the students have to appear for NEET and JEE for admission to medical and engineering colleges and in CUET for admission to degree courses in science, humanities and commerce.
How merging NEET and JEE into CUET will benefit students?
This proposal will bring ease to students. Students will only have to appear for one examination (CUET). The marks scored in CUET will be used by students to get admission in multiple disciplines.
With the marks scored in CUTE, students can get admission into Medical, Engineering, Mathematics, Arts, Business Administration, and whatnot. This will solve the problem of overlapping in major national-level admission tests.
Students will not be required to manage dates, exam centers and more logistics problems.
What is CUET?
The CUET was introduced by University Grants Commission earlier this year for admission to various Central universities and colleges.
This year, CUET has received 14.9 lakh registrations. 53 Central Universities 12 state universities, 11 deemed universities, and 19 private universities are part of the first edition of CUET-UG for admissions for the 2022-23 session.
The exam is conducted in a computer-based mode for two hours.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting test in 13 languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, and Hindi. Admission to undergraduate courses at Central Universities will be exclusively dependent on CUET 2022 results, with no weighting given to class 12th results.
