The Education Ministry on Wednesday ordered the cancellation of the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The decision was taken following inputs that the integrity of the examination may have been compromised. Also, the Ministry has handed over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough investigation.
UGC-NET June 2024 Examination in OMR (pen and paper) mode was conducted June 18, 2024 in two shifts across different cities of the country. A record 11 lakh students had registered for the exam. The decision to cancel the examination comes amid a massive row on the medical entrance exam NEET over alleged irregularities, with the issue now before the Supreme Court.
"On 19th June, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received certain inputs from National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Examination. These inputs prima-facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised," the Ministry said in a release.
"A fresh examination shall be conducted, for which information shall be shared separately. Simultaneously, the matter is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (C.B.I.) for thorough investigation in the matter," the release added.
