Kerala SSLC HSC Exams Updates: The recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases across the country has compelled several state governments to either postpone or cancel their board exams. Even the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has cancelled the class 10 board exams and postponed class 12 board exams. However, the Kerala government on Monday has decided to proceed with the ongoing SSLC and plus two exams for the board exams candidates of class 10 and class 12 by maintaining strict precautionary measures as per a PTI report.

In Kerala, the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exam and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams began from April 8, 2021. The SSLC class 10 board exams are supposed to continue till April 29, 2021, while the HSC class 12 board exams are scheduled till April 26, 2021. This year, nearly nine lakh students are appearing for the class 10 class 12 board exams in Kerala in more than 4951 centres.
In a statement, the Directorate of General Education has stated that steps have already been taken to ensure the safety of the students. Steps have been taken so that the students can maintain social distancing while writing the exams. The teachers and the non-teaching staff and the students have been instructed to wear triple-layer masks. Moreover, the chief exam superintendents have been asked to ensure the entry of a student in the exam centre only after body temperature checking.
Last week, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country, the CBSE has cancelled the class 10 board exams. The class 12 board exams have been postponed as of now. A decision regarding the class 12 board exams will be taken after a thorough review of the COVID-19 situation in the country on June 1, 2021. Following the announcement by CBSE, several other state boards have also resorted to similar decisions.
Kerala had postponed the SSLC and HSC exams earlier when the class 10 class 12 board exams were scheduled to commence from March 17, 2021 as the at that time the teachers were engaged in election duties and the classrooms were used for polling purposes.
Considering the present scenario, at the school levels, arrangements have been made for the COVID positive students for writing the exams. Handwashing facilities and sanitisers are being made available for the candidates, teachers and other staffs.
Owing to the present COVID-19 situation, the universities in Kerala have postponed the the offline exams. Following the intervention from the governor of Kerala Arif Mohammad Khan, all the exams scheduled by the universities of the state from April 19, 2021, have been postponed.
The SSLC and HSC exams in Kerala were also affected last year due to the pandemic. Exams for several papers were conducted later in the month of May and the results were declared in June.
