Keeping rising cases of Covid 19 in mind, the Karnataka government said it plans to start the next academic year for schools from July 15. It said that plan also is subject to the COVID-19 situation.
"We are planning to start the next academic year for schools from July 15. We have to keep in mind the Covid situation as well," Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar told reporters during a press conference in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Referring to a report by Premji University, which said that children are lagging in Maths in the absence of regular offline classes, he said the state has the obligation to take care of their health and education.
The minister, to a question, said the government would consult experts and decide whether the Bhagawad Gita should be included in the school curriculum, as demanded from some quarters.
Meanwhile, Covid 19 continues to cast shadow over opening of schools and academic sessions in many states, as 35,886 cases were reported in the country on Wednesday. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state with 23,179 cases. Karnataka, which shares its border with Maharashtra has reported 1,275 cases on Wednesday, which is highest in the state since December 9.
