Following the footsteps of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) has also postponed the board exams for classes 10 and 12 due to the huge spike in the COVID-19 cases in the state. The council said in a statement that a review meeting on the COVID-19 situation will be held on June 1, 2021, following which further decisions regarding class 10 class 12 board exams will be taken.
ANI reports, “Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases, Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) postpones examinations of Class 10th and 12th. A meeting will be held on June 1 to review the situation, & further decisions will be taken according to the situation: JAC.”
Earlier last week, the CBSE cancelled the class 10 board exams and the class 12 board exams were postponed. After CBSE, the CISCE also took a similar decision regarding the class 10 class 12 board exams. Several other state boards have also decided either to postpone the board exams for classes 10 and 12 or to postpone them.
When the pandemic first struck the country last year, the schools and other educational institutions were closed down and exams were cancelled to ensure the safety of the students and to curb the spread of the disease. This time again with the rise in the number of cases all over the country, the authorities are adopting similar measures to control the pandemic.
In such a situation, the authorities are exploring alternate ways to evaluate the students. For instance, the CBSE will prepare the results of the class 10 board exam candidates based on an objective criterion to be prepared by the board.
Earlier, on April 15, 2021, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren had a long discussion with officials on the matriculation and inter examinations, that is, the class 10 class 12 board exams of the JAC Board regarding the dangerously growing corona virus infection in Jharkhand.
