Gujarat School Latest News Today: The schools for classes 1 to 9 have been closed down in Gujarat due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. Several states have been closing down schools and other educational institutions due to the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases across the country.

As per a PTI report, Gujarat, on Friday, April 2, reported 2640 cases, the highest single-day addition. It also reported 11 deaths.

The recent spike in the number of COVID-19 cases have compelled the respective state governments to impose strict measures to control the pandemic. Several states have closed down schools and other educational institutions.

When the pandemic first struck in the country in March last year, the schools and other educational institutions were closed down all over the country. The students had to attend online classes for education. Now, with the recent rise in the number of COVID-19 cases had forced the respective state governments to adopt measures like the initial days of COVID-19 in the country in order to contain the pandemic.

Gujarat is not the first state to impose this closure on schools and educational institutions. Other states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and many other states have closed down schools and other educational institutions.

Though, offline classes have been closed in Gujarat from classes 1 to 9, as per the decision at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, physical classes for classes 10, 12 and colleges will continue to take place.

The schools and other educational institutions which were closed down in the state since March last year were reopened in phased manner from January this year. On January 11, physical classes for classes 10 and12 were reopened. Undergraduate and postgraduate classes also reopened on the same day. On February 8, physical classes for classes 9 and 11 started.

A release from Gujarat's Chief Minister office stated, "All offline classes of standard 1 to 9 in government and private schools will be closed down for an indefinite period from Monday. Online education will be encouraged. The decision was taken keeping in mind safety of students when COVID-19 cases have surged in the state."
