Gujarat rain update: Heavy rains continue in parts of Gujarat; IMD issues red alert
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel-led Gujarat government has requested six Indian Army columns to be stationed in Dwarka, Anand, Vadodara, Kheda, Morbi, and Rajkot districts.
As rain continues in parts of Gujarat, nine more people have died, taking the death toll to 16 in two days, while another 8,500 people were relocated and rescued from flood-affected areas with rains continuing to lash some parts of the state for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesdayas, as per an official data.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a respite from the rain fury in the coming days as the deep depression hovering over the Saurashtra-Kachchh and north Gujarat regions is expected to move out of the affected areas by Wednesday evening. According to the IMD data, state has received nearly 100 per cent of its average annual rainfall while South Gujarat has received 105 per cent of its average annual rainfall, and Kutch has received 95.8 per cent. Central and North Gujarat have received 77 per cent and 70.74 per cent, respectively, while Saurashtra has received 91 per cent of its average annual rainfall.

Rescue Operations
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel-led Gujarat government has requested six Indian Army columns to be stationed in Dwarka, Anand, Vadodara, Kheda, Morbi, and Rajkot districts. "Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with the Gujarat CM regarding the heavy rain situation and got detailed details of the relief and rescue operations. He provided guidance on the protection of lives and livestock of citizens. Also, Gujarat was assured of providing all necessary support and assistance from the Central Government, said CM Bhupendra Patel in a post on X.

Chief Minister Bhupendra also held a virtual meeting with district collectors, police superintendents, and senior officials from major cities to assess the situation. Meanwhile, authorities have urged residents to remain indoors and avoid venturing near water bodies as the state braces for more intense rainfall in the coming days.
