BHU reopens today, allows science stream Ph.D. students to visit labs for research work

BHU reopening date: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Monday opened with restrictions, nearly eight months after its closure due to coronavirus pandemic in March.  In a notice issued on November 19, the BHU had said that the university will reopen from Monday (November 23) in a phased manner with safety measures in place in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. However, the university has not released any official notification about conduct of classes on the campus on the first day.

As per the university previous guideline, In the first phase, final year students of Ph.D programmes of science streams have been permitted to visit their respective departments/labs for research work.  

The notice put on Twitter by the official handle of BHU read “#BHU is going to re-open from 23.11.2020 in a phased manner in terms of the @ugc_india guidelines. In the 1st phase, final year students of Ph.D. programmes of Science streams will be permitted to visit their respective departments/labs for research work. @VCofficeBHU (sic).”

The university has also formed committees for the implementation of UGC guidelines and SOPs issued by the government.

In one of the tweets, BHU informed that the university is taking steps to further bolster online teaching. “Computer Centre will purchase 200 licences for use of departments to ensure large number of online classes simultaneously accommodating huge number of students,” it said in a tweet on November 21.

Deans and HoDs have been asked to prepare a schedule of online teaching which will be displayed on the web page of the concerned Faculty/Department. Deans will be responsible for monitoring online teaching and the progress.

As per the instruction issued by the Banaras Hindu University, each faculty will constitute a core committee for developing an SOP to be followed during the reopening of the University and for its effective implementation and monitoring. The SoP shall be based on the MoHFW/MHA/MoE/State government’s guidelines on safety measures for prevention of the spread of COVID-19.
