Mumbai airport accident: Private jet with 8 people on-board veers off runway — Watch first visuals

Plane accident at Mumbai airport: A private jet carrying eight people on-board — 6 passengers and 2 crew members — veered off runway at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Thursday, reports said. 

The aircraft - a VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL - was operating between Visakhapatnam and Mumbai, ANI reported. The jet was involved in "runway excursion", meaning it veered off while landing on runway 27 at the Mumbai airport. 

The landing conditions were poor with visibility reduced to only 700 metres due to heavy rainfall in the financial capital. DGCA sources have said that no casualties were reported.

First visuals emanating from Mumbai airport showed fire-tenders spraying water at the scene of the accident.

Reports said that relief teams have been rushed to spot.

Details of the passengers or crew are not yet available, but officials said that three people injured in the accident have been taken to hospital. 

The runway has been temporarily closed due to the incident forcing diversion of flights.

Update: Spokesperson of Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) said that services resumed on runway 27 where VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL operating flight from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai was involved in runway excursion while landing.
