HDFC Life helps ‘Dabbawalas’ against the Covid-19 crisis with #PromisewalaDabba

The nation is facing an unprecedented challenge with communities and economies everywhere affected by the growing COVID-19 pandemic. But people are coming together to combat the COVID-19 pandemic bringing governments, organizations from across industries and sectors and individuals together to help respond to this global outbreak.

The outpouring of national solidarity and support sparked by this shared challenge has been phenomenal. And the prime example of this is HDFC Life’s initiative with Ketto India to support the Mumbai Dabbawala community. With restricted movement and offices and industries closed and work from home in effect, the Dabbawalas had no option than to return to their respective villages and switch to a different source of livelihood.

With this nationwide crowdfunding campaign, #PromisewalaDabba, HDFC Life aims to help the Dabbawalas of Mumbai stand on their feet once again with a month’s supply of ration, delivered to their homes. Ketto, India’s foremost crowdfunding platform has also partnered with HDFC Life as part of the #PromisewalaDabba campaign in order to serve as a platform to raise money for this cause. The company will deliver a #PromisewalaDabba to each Dabbawala, which includes essential supplies such as staple food ingredients, spices and accompaniments, sanitizers etc. - everything their family needs to sustain in this time of crisis. 

From last 125 years Dabbawalas have always stayed true to their responsibility of delivering timely tiffins to over 2 lakh customers every single day. They connected thousands of homes with thousand workers chasing their dreams; they never failed to deliver their promise of a wholesome and homemade meal.
