Aatmanirbhar Bharat! PM Narendra Modi to dedicate 7 new defence companies to nation today

In a big boost to self-reliance in the defence preparedness of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate seven new defence companies to the nation on Friday (October 15, 2021) in an event to mark the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami. The video conference event, which has been organised by the Defence Ministry, will begin at around 12:10 pm

"On the special occasion of Vijaya Dashami tomorrow, 15th October, seven new defence companies would be dedicated to the nation. This is a part of our efforts to modernise the defence sector and create an Aatmanirbhar Bharat," read a tweet from PM Modi official tweeter handle on Thursday.

Defence Minister, MoS Defence and representatives from the Defence industry associations will be present on the occasion.

The government has decided to convert Ordnance Factory Board from a government department into seven 100 per cent government-owned corporate entities, as a measure to improve self-reliance in the defence preparedness of the country. This move will bring about enhanced functional autonomy, efficiency and will unleash new growth potential and innovation. 

The seven new Defence companies that have been incorporated are:  
1 Munitions India Limited (MIL)  
2 Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI)
3 Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India)
4 Troop Comforts Limited (TCL)
5 Yantra India Limited (YIL)
6 India Optel Limited (IOL)
7 Gliders India Limited (GIL).
