According to the news, the ministry had already made it necessary to fit the driver airbag and front co-passenger airbag with effect from 1 January 2022 to 01 July 2019. This will ultimately ensure the safety of the passengers across all segments, irrespective of the cost/variant of the vehicle. Auto companies had demanded from the government to give additional time for this.
Airbags in budget vehicles should be as per the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 145. These should be notified under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act 2016. Currently, the companies offer the feature of dual front airbags (Airbags in cars) only in the top variants. After this decision of the government, carmakers can increase the prices of cars by Rs 5000 to 7000.
Rane Madras is the largest airbag manufacturer Indian company in India. Bosch also manufactures airbags. Usually, the airbags that come in vehicles (6 Airbags compulsory news) are made of cotton, and have a silicone coating on them. The airbag is filled with sodium azide gas. There is a sensor on the front in the bumper of the car, as soon as something hits the bumper with velocity, the sensor is activated and during the accident, the airbags open in less than a second, which increases the risk of injury. It is low and saves the head of the passengers from moving forward.
