Similarly, the government will also have consultation and discussion with the auto sector players regarding implementation of the same. Amid the increase in airbags, the design and size of the cars have to be re-looked as well as there are chances of prices of these vehicles to go up, says Bhutani.
The timeline to fit six airbags with respect to old and new vehicles are yet to be decided, which will only happen after consultation with the auto companies, adds Bhutani.
Earlier on August 3, 2021, Gadkari had called upon a meeting with auto manufacturers and appealed all Private Vehicle Manufacturers to compulsorily provide a minimum of 6 Airbags across all variants and segments of the vehicle, in the interest of passenger safety.
The mandatory two airbags norm has also been deferred due to technical issues and covid concerns, Bhutani points out.
This is positive news for all the domestic airbags manufacturer companies, says Bhutani adding further that these companies would get orders for four extra airbags that would be fitted in private vehicles going forward.
