Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV to have 130 km real-world range, better than Mahindra Electric e20: Check price, details
Maruti WagonR is one of the largest selling cars of India. With new EV avatar of all new Maruti Suzuki WagonR, the company is eyeing to fill the electric vehicle market. Wagonr EV is likely to have a real-world range of roughly 130km, according to autocar India. The range will be achievable under regular Indian city driving conditions but at normal-average speeds. However, as with all EVs, the range will be inversely proportional to speed. A consistent higher speed will bring range down to 100km. The official certified range of the car is expected to be much higher than 130km, though.
A potential 130km real-world range will give the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV an edge over its rival, as it was missing in the existing electric vehicle like Mahindra Electric e2O. However the Mahindra e-Verito and Tata Tigor EV with tested ARAI figures of 140 km and 142 km, respectively have also been panned for their limited range.
While the electric version of the Wagon R will come under the ambit of the government’s EV-promoting FAME 2 scheme and is also expected to benefit from state subsidies.
With all the subsidies and benefits could help bring down the final price for a buyer to somewhere around Rs 7-7.5 lakh. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV will support standard AC charging as well as DC fast charging, with a charging time of 7 hours and 1 hour (to 80 percent), respectively.
The final specifications for the Wagon R EV for India are not known as yet as the company has not released any notification so far.
The WagonR EV for India is likely to feature a spacious cabin just like its conventionally powered sibling - WagonR 2019 petrol. However, it will be interesting to see the sales of the new EV from Maruti in 2019.
