2018 Ducati Monster 821 launched in India priced at Rs 9.51 lakh

With an introductory price of Rs 9.51 lakh, the 2018 Ducati Monster 821 has been launched in India via a fully digital event on Twitter. The Monster 821 street-fighter motorcycle was earlier launched in 2016, but discontinued in 2017 after the BS-IV emission norms were introduced. The Monster 821 has come back with styling upgrades, new features and a BS-IV compliant powertrain, said an NDTV report. The new bike keeps its 821 cc Testastretta L-twin engine, which reportedly makes 108 bhp at 9,250 rpm and peak torque of 86 Nm at 7,750 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox with an optional bi-directional quick-shifter and a slipper clutch, besides a new double-barrel exhaust. 
 
Other updates and features that have further added to the Monster 821's charm include an updated LED headlamp, a full-colour TFT instrument console, which can be paired to a smartphone, a slimmer redesigned rear and classic looks. The classic looks of Monster 821 has been reportedly inspired from the Monster M900 from 1993.

The new bike comes with three riding modes, urban, touring and sport, and each feature has different settings for throttle response, ABS (anti-lock brakes) and traction control, said the report. In the urban mode, the power of the bike drops to about 75 bhp, while the output stays at full in the sport and touring mode, even as power delivery is a bit dialled down in the touring mode.

The brakes of the new Monster 821 boasts of Brembo Monobloc M4.32 callipers with twin 320 mm discs up front and a 245 mm disc at the rear with a two-piston calliper. The Monster 821 will be available in a shade of yellow, regular black and red. The new bike is likely to give tough competition to rivals like Triumph Street Triple, Suzuki GSX-S750 and Kawasaki Z900.
