US Presidential Elections 2024: Republican Trump, who was the US President from 2016 to 2020 beat her Democrat counterpart Kamala Harris to become the President for the second time on Wednesday. He matched the record of Grover Cleveland, who served two non-consecutive terms as the US President between 1885-1889 and 1893-1897.
US Presidential Elections 2024: Donald Trump wrote a chapter of history on Wednesday (November 6, 2024) as he became only the second person in the history to win the US Presidential Elections for two inconsecutive terms.
Republican Trump, who was the US President from 2016 to 2020, beat her Democrat counterpart Kamala Harris 277-224 on Wednesday.
He matched the record of Grover Cleveland, who served two non-consecutive terms as the US President between 1885-1889 and 1893-1897.
With the victory, Trump also became the first Republican US President in 20 years to win the popular vote.
After projected to win the crucial battle of Pennsylvania, Trump addressed to US citizens from Florida, saying it is the "greatest political movement of all time."
Trump gets more popular votes
Trump got 7,09,11,212 popular votes (51 per cent) in an election that gathered huge attention globally.
Harris, on the other hand, won 6,59,99,102 (47.5 per cent) popular votes.
When Trump won the 2016 US Presidential race, it was his counterpart, Hillary Clinton, who won more popular votes.
Cleveland's non-consecutive terms
After becoming the US President in 1885, Cleveland, a Democrat, lost in the 1888 polls to Republican Benjamin Harrison.
However, he got more popular votes (90,000 more) than his Republican counterpart.
But Cleveland contested again in 1892 and made a victorious comeback to the White House, winning 277 out of the 444 electoral votes.
