WhatsApp to stop working on some iPhones soon: Check full details here
If your iPhone has reached the end of its software update cycle and can’t be upgraded further, you will need to update to a newer iPhone that supports iOS 15.1 or newer.
WhatsApp usually drops support for older devices and operating systems to keep evolving the platform with the integration of new features, advanced architecture, and security updates. In its latest update, the social media platform has started to send notifications to users about dropping support for older iOS versions. It implies that iPhone users running the older iOS versions may no longer be able to use WhatsApp.
The new notification states that WhatsApp will discontinue support for the iOS version before iOS 15, meaning that those iPhones that run on iOS 15 or earlier will not have support for WhatsApp, and the messaging app will stop functioning on these iPhone models.
Currently, WhatsApp can be used on iOS 12 or newer, but starting May 5, the platform will only support devices running iOS 15.1 or newer.
Therefore, users are advised to update their devices with the latest available iOS version. For example, if your device is compatible with the iOS 15.1 update and you are still running the iOS 15, consider upgrading your device to the latest available iOS update.
If your iPhone has reached the end of its software update cycle and can’t be upgraded further, you will need to update to a newer iPhone that supports iOS 15.1 or newer.
In case you are planning to do a workaround by resorting to TestFlight, note that this method will no longer be working after May 5. The app will stop functioning even if you are using the beta version of the app.
In other related development, WhatsApp introduced another feature that will allow users to add customer messages when forwarding content. It means that WhatsApp users will be able to add personalised messages while forwarding images, videos, GIFs and links. The feature is likely to work with photos, videos and GIFs initially.
