Raksha Bandhan 2021 date: Raksha Bandhan is a festival dedicated to all brothers and sisters to celebrate their lovely bond. This year, Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi will be celebrated on August 22 (Sunday). Sisters across the world pray for the well-being of their brothers. They tie a Rakhi on their brothers' wrists, which symbolizes their bond. The brothers promise to protect and help their sisters from in every circumstance.
The Sanskrit term Raksha Bandhan literally means “bond of protection”, and on this day women and girls of all ages tie a talisman, known as a Rakhi, around the wrists of their brothers as a symbol of protection.

On Raksha Bandhan, the sisters wake up early in the morning and prepare for the Rakhi festival. One must put the Rakhi in a thaali with a small diya, akshat (rice mixed with turmeric), kumkum, sweets. First, pray with your entire family in front of God and perform small pooja and later, carry out the rakhi celebrations. Post the ritual, brothers treat their sisters to gifts and sweets in return.
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in the month of Shravana during a full moon day or Purnima, as per the Hindu Panchang (calendar). The auspicious timing for tying rakhi is between 06.15 AM to 05.31 PM on the same date. The best time to tie rakhi is during Aparahna or late afternoon.
Significance of Raksha Bandhan: The day is important as it signifies the bond between a brother and a sister and the undying love that they have for one another. The day stands for the love a brother has for his sister, and the lengths to which he would go to protect her. The tying of the Rakhi is considered sacred as it stands for the promise a brother makes to his sister that he will protect her at all cost.
