Maha Shivratri 2021: This year the festival of Maha Shivratri is on March 11 (Thursday). On Maha Shivaratri, Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati. Shiv means Lord Shiva and Ratri means night, so, Maha Shivratri essentially means the great night of Lord Shiva. Maha Shivratri is observed on the Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalguna. On Maha Shivratri, temples are decorated to celebrate the auspicious occasion.
