As India's wait for another medal continues since Mirabai Chanu started India's journey at Tokyo Olympics on promising note by winning silver on Day 1, India team has put up a strong show at the World Cadet Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The Indian sportspersons have bagged as many as 13 medals, of which 5 are golds.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took to Twitter to congratulate Indian contingent at Budapest and also informed about India's medal tally at the tournament.  

"Our sportspersons continue to make us proud. India wins 13 medals, including 5 Golds at the World Cadet Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Congratulations to our team and best wishes for their future endeavours," tweeted PM Modi 

Earlier on Sunday, India grappler Priya Malik clinched gold at the World Cadet Wrestling Championships on Sunday.  

Malik defeated Kseniya Patapovich 5-0 in the summit clash and as a result, she won a gold medal at the World Cadet Championships in Hungary.  

Priya Malik won in the women's 73kg weight category and she has given the country another reason to smile as, on Saturday, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.  

Priya Malik had also won the gold medal in the 2019 edition of Khelo India in Pune and she then went on to clinch gold at the 17th School Games held in Delhi. Tannu had won the title in the 43kg category. 

Earlier, wrestler Mirabai Chanu clinched the country’s first weightlifting silver in the 49kg category on Day 1. The wrestler also ended India’s 21-year wait for a weightlifting medal at the Olympics.
