The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. The RCB broke its four-match winning streak in the loss against the yellow army in the Indian Premier League 2021.
In this regard, an official statement was released by the T20 league. “Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 25.”
It further read, “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences, Mr Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
According to guidelines, if this repeats in the tournament, the fine for the captain is doubled (Rs 24 lakh) while every other member of playing XI is fined 25 per cent of the match fee or Rs 6 lakh – whichever is lesser.
Moreover, if the offence is committed for the third time in a season, the captain is penalised Rs 30 lakh and has to serve a one-match ban, while the rest of the members of the playing XI are fined Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of match fee – whichever is lesser.
This is the fourth such instance when a captain has been penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate. Earlier, CSK’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni, MI’s Rohit Sharma, and KKR’s Eoin Morgan have been fined Rs 12 lakh for violating the slow over-rate guidelines during this season.
