The US dollar rose on Friday as investors' sentiment was lifted by possible good progress in US-China trade talks and thus they turned to riskier assets. The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, increased 0.21 per cent at 98.3521 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro was down to $1.1023 from $1.1047 in the previous session, and the British pound was down to $1.2783 from $1.2820 in the previous session, Xinhua reported. The Australian dollar decreased to $0.6855 from $0.6900.

The US dollar bought 109.15 Japanese yen, lower than 109.30 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.9974 Swiss franc from 0.9955 Swiss franc, and it rose to 1.3227 Canadian dollars from 1.3181 Canadian dollars.
