Queen Elizabeth II's letter to citizens of Sydney: A secret letter written by Queen Elizabeth II has remained locked inside a vault in Sydney for the past 36 years, and intriguingly — as per the late Queen's wishes — it shall remain locked for another 63 years.

News agency ANI quoted a report by 7NEWS Australia saying that the letter has been kept safe inside a vault in a major structure in Sydney. The letter was written by Queen Elizabeth in November 1986 and has been addressed to the people of Sydney.

As per the report, even the Queen's staff has no idea of what the letter contains, since it has been hidden inside a glass case in a secure position. Acoording to the late Queen's wishes, the letter can only be opened in the year 2085.

Lord Mayor of Sydney was quoted in the report saying that the instructions issued by the Queen say that the letter can only be opened in the year 2085 A.D..

The day on which the letter can be opened shall be decided by the mayor of Sydney. Upon opening, the Mayor of Sydney shall convey her message to the citizens of Sydney. The letter has been signed: "ElizabethR".

During her tenure as the head of state, Queen Elizabeth II has visited Australia 16 times. 

In a statement released on Friday, Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: "From her notorious first trip to Australia, the only reigning autonomous to ever visit, it was clear Her Majesty held a special place in her heart for Australia."

"Fifteen further tenures before cheering crowds in every part of our country verified the special place she held in ours," Albanese added.

In the year 1999, Australia held a vote on whether to remove the Queen as head of state, but it was defeated, reported CNN. Meanwhile, King Charles III was officially named monarch in Australia on Sunday.

In related news, neighbouring country New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Monday that her government will not pursue any moves to change the country into a republic following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
