Jeff Bezos and wife MacKenzie Bezos divorce proceedings are moving forward and the newest happening on the issue is that a settlement amount has been reached between the two. MacKenzie, who is set to split up with world's richest man this week after the 25 years of marriage, will walk away with around $38 billion.
The Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife first announced their divorce in January which was finalized in April. It is reportedly the biggest divorce settlement in history. MacKenzie Bezos was to get 25 per cent of couple`s joint Amazon stock, which is worth around $38 billion.
However, even after paying $38 billion in stock as settlement money, Bezos will still hold the rank of the world's richest man with 59.1 million shares of Amazon worth of around $112 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
As per the report of CCN.com, the Amazon CEO will not lose control of the e-commerce giant despite now owning fewer shares.
"This is because despite his soon-to-be ex-wife walking away with a 4 per cent stake in Amazon, she has voluntarily ceded her voting rights to Jeff Bezos," said the report on Tuesday.
According to the reports, MacKenzie has decided to donate half of her $38 billion settlement money to the philanthropic campaign- the Giving Pledge, which was founded in 2010 by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, which encourages wealthy people to donate their money for the philanthropic cause.
"My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won`t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty," MacKenzie wrote in an open letter recently.
"MacKenzie is going to be amazing and thoughtful and effective at philanthropy, and I`m proud of her. Her letter is so beautiful. Go get `em MacKenzie," Jeff applauded his wife MacKenzie on the decision to donate money on Twitter.
