Henley Passport Index 2023: Singapore replaces Japan as world's strongest passport; India jumps seven places

Henley Passport Index 2023: The South East Asian country's passport allows one to get visa-free entry into 192 countries out of 227 nations. Japan has lost the top spot as it slipped to the joint third spot with visa-free entry to 189 countries.

India has also jumped seven places in the index as it has improved from the 87th position in 2022 to the 80th position in 2023.

With an Indian passport, one can get access to 57 countries. 

European nations, Germany, Italy, and Spain, jumped a place to grab the second position jointly.

Their passport can get one visa-free entry to 190 countries. 

Japan is tied for third place with Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Sweden.

The United States slips to 8th spot

One of the most sought-after passports, the United States, doesn't seem that strong as per the index as it slid to eighth place, giving one entry to 184 destinations, the same as Lithiunia's passport. The US was ranked seventh last year. 

The United Kingdom jumped two spots to joint fourth as its passport is valid for visa-free travel to 188 destinations. The UK is tied with Denmark, Ireland, and the Netherlands. 

The least powerful passport

Taliban-ruled Afghanistan is the least powerful passport, as it is languishing at the last spot (103rd place).

The country's passport is valid for visa-free entry into 27 countries. Pakistan is ranked poorly at 100th. Syria is 101st, while Iraq is a place above Afghanistan at 102nd place.
