The Get on Up actor died at the age of 43 on Friday after a four-year-long battle with colon cancer. The tweet announcing Boseman’s death currently has more than 6.3 million likes and 3 million retweets at the time of this article’s publication.
“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV,” the tweet announced.
Boseman had risen to fame after essaying the role of the real-life figures including baseball star Jackie Robinson in 2013’s 42 and American singer-songwriter James Brown in 2014’s ‘Get on Up’. However, he became a global star with the release of Captain America: Civil War where he played Black Panther – a role Boseman also essayed in the Avengers films.
In the movie, the late actor starred as the ruler of Wakanda, a fictional African nation with the most advanced technology. Hence, some of his admirers, along with the condolence message, summed up their love for him by tweeting “Wakanda Forever”.
Boseman’s Da 5 Bloods director Spike Lee paid tribute to the late actor. At the annual Brooklyn loves MJ block party for Michael Jackson’s birthday, Lee dedicated a performance of Micheal Jackson’s Gone Too Soon to Boseman.
“We filmed Da 5 Bloods in Thailand, and it was hot, jungles, mountains, and Chadwick was there with us all the way. I never, ever suspected that anything was wrong....Chadwick, a trooper, never complained. He was there every single minute in the moment. And his performance is a testament to what he put into that role, and all his roles,” he said.
