Nepal Elections 2022 Results, Counting LIVE UPDATES, Latest News, Updates: The Nepali Congress is in the top position in the counting of votes underway on Sunday in the House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly (PA) elections held on November 20. Counting of votes in three election constituencies is yet to begin due to dispute while vote counting in remaining seven constituencies are underway, according to the Election Commission of Nepal. This is the second federal and provincial elections in Nepal after the promulgation of the constitution in 2015, September. According to the Election Commission, the results of the vote counting of 155 out of the 165 electoral constituencies under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) category have been announced by Sunday morning. Similarly, vote counting is underway for elections under proportional representation. Out of 275 seats for federal assembly, 165 members of parliament are elected under FPTP while 110 lawmakers will be elected under proportional representation. Similarly, elections were conducted for unicameral provincial assemblies for all seven provinces. There are 550 provincial seats in all of seven provinces of Nepal, of which 330 (60 per cent) will be elected through first past the post and 220 (40 per cent) of seats will be elected through proportional representation. The Nepali Congress tops the vote-count, securing 52 seats, the CPN (UML) 41 seats, the CPN (Maoist Centre) 17 seats, the CPN (Unified Socialist) 10 seats, and the Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party seven seats each. With the election results near to complete, no political party is going to gain the majority in the election. After failing to gain majority by one single political party, the present ruling alliance of five political parties started government formation talks from Saturday. Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN ( Unified Socalist), Rastriya Janamorcha and Loktantrik Samajbdi Party are under the alliance of the present ruling coalition led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Another alliance is led by CPN-UML that is far from securing the majority. On Saturday, Prime Minister Deuba and Chairman of the Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal met and discussed ways to give continuity to the present coalition. Both leaders also agreed to expedite talks within and outside of the coalition to form the government. Likewise, the Janata Samajbadi Party has won five seats, the Lokatantrik Samajbadi Party four seats, the Nagarik Unmukti Party three seats and the independents five seats under the FPTP category of the HoR election so far. The Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, the Janamat Party and the Rastriya Janamorcha have won one HoR seat each under the FPTP category. The Election Commission stated that the vote count results of 10 electoral constituencies are still awaited. Elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and seven provincial assemblies were held on Sunday. The counting of votes started on Monday.
In the 275-member House of Representatives, 165 will be elected through direct voting, while the remaining 110 will be elected through a proportional electoral system.
A party or a coalition needs 138 seats to win a clear majority.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's Nepali Congress-led ruling coalition was on Friday heading towards winning a clear majority in Nepal's parliamentary elections with the alliance bagging 64 seats out of the 118 declared.
The Nepali Congress was set to emerge as the single-largest party after winning 39 seats alone under the direct voting system.
Its alliance partners -- CPN-Maoist Centre and CPN-Unified Socialist have won 12, 10 seats. The Lokatantrik Samajwadi and Rastriya Janamorcha have bagged two and one seat respectively. They all are part of the ruling alliance.
The Opposition alliance led by former premier K P Sharma Oli-led CPN-UML has bagged 35 seats.
The CPN-UML has won 29 seats.
The CPN-UML partners - the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Janata Samajwadi Party - have won four and two seats respectively.
The newly-formed Rastriya Swatantra Party has won 7 seats. Lokatantrai Samajwadi Party and Janmat Party, both Madhesi parties --have won two and one seat respectively.
Nagarik Unmukti Party has bagged two seats and Janamorcha and Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party have received one each. Five seats were won by independents and others.
Out of the 275 Members of Parliament, 165 will be elected through direct voting, while the remaining 110 will be elected through a proportional electoral system.
Till now, the Nepali Congress has won 25 seats and is leading in 31 more. If trends continue, the NC-led five-party alliance will be in a position to form a coalition government.
However, the CPN-UML has secured the highest number of votes under the proportionate voting system, which gives it an advantage.
Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's Nepali Congress (NC)-led ruling coalition was on Thursday on its way to winning Nepal's parliamentary elections and has bagged 40 seats out of 65 declared so far.
The main Opposition CPN-UML led by former premier K P Sharma Oli has won 15 seats and is leading in 29 others.
The Maoist Centre and CPN-Unified Socialist have been leading in 10 and 5 seats respectively.
Out of the 10 seats in the district, the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has secured five and Rastriya Swotantra Party (RSP) bagged four.
Nagarik Unmukti Party, Janmat Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Rastriya Janamorcha and independent candidates have secured one seat each.
The CPN-Maoist Centre has bagged 7 seats, CPN-Unified Socialist 6 and Rastriya Janamorcha and Lokatantrik Samajwadi Party one each. They all are part of the ruling coalition.
The newly-formed Rastriya Swotantra Party has won five seats and is leading in four seats.
In Nepal's capital city Kathmandu, the CPN-UML could bag just one seat, down from the six it had bagged in 2017.
Under the proportionate system, the CPN-UML has so far received 3,65,505 votes whereas the NC and Maoist Centre received 3,37,328 and 1,61,069 votes respectively.
The CPN-UML partners - the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Janata Samajwadi Party - have won two and one seats respectively.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party has won two seats and is leading in three seats.
The CPN-UML has received the highest number of votes under the proportional electoral system with the party bagging 2,07,299 votes followed by the Nepali Congress with 1,83,352 votes.
Rastriya Swotantra Party is in the third position with 95,598 votes while CPN-Maoist has received 86,433 votes.
Similarly, the CPN Unified Socialist got 10,919 votes.Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party have bagged one seat each.
The newly formed Rastriya Swotantra Party has won three seats in the Kathmandu district.
The CPN-UML led by former prime minister K P Oli has so far bagged three seats and is leading in 45 constituencies. Its ally parties -- the Rastriya Prajatantra Partyj and Janata Samajwadi Party -- are leading in 5 seats each.
The 77-year-old Nepali Congress president Deuba is currently holding the post of Prime Minister for the fifth term.
Deuba secured 25,534 votes against his nearest rival Sagar Dhakal, an independent candidate in the Dadeldhura constituency in far west Nepal. Dhakal received just 1,302 votes. Deuba has never lost any parliamentary election in the five decades of his political career.
