PM Modi announces Bharat Ratna for PV Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh, MS Swaminathan: Details

On February 9, PM Narendra Modi declared that India’s highest civilian award will be honored to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao Garu,  Chaudhary Charan Singh, and agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan.

The government had previously announced that former Deputy PM LK Advani and former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur would receive the country's top civilian award.

Narasimha Rao guided India through significant changes and also enhanced its cultural and intellectual legacy.

PM Modi attributed India's economic advancement and the establishment of a strong foundation for prosperity and growth to Rao's forward-thinking leadership.

The Prime Minister declared that the Bharat Ratna awarded to Charan Singh honours his unparalleled service to the nation.

PM also praised MS Swaminathan's immense contributions to agriculture and the welfare of farmers.

The Prime Minister highlighted Swaminathan's significant role in India's agricultural self-reliance and commendable efforts in its modernization.
