The Aadhaar card is a 12-digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of the Government of India.
Since it is one of the most widely used government documents for personal identity or address proof across the country, its usage is increasing day by day.
Losing access to this essential identity document can become a hassle, potentially disrupting important official work.
If one has lost his/her Aadhaar card, he/she can easily create a new one using UIDAI online services. Follow the steps given below:
Visit the official UIDAI website - uidai.gov.in.
Look for the 'My Aadhaar' tab and click on it.
Under the 'My Aadhaar' section, find 'Retrieve Lost/Forgotten EID/UIDAI' and click on it.
Enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number or your 16-digit Virtual ID, along with a security code displayed on the screen.
You'll receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter this OTP to proceed.
Once the OTP is verified, review your details and then proceed to make the payment. The reprint charges may vary.
After successful payment, a confirmation message along with a Service Request Number (SRN) will be received. Use this SRN to track the status of your reprint request.
While waiting for physical Aadhaar card to arrive, one can download an electronic copy of your Aadhaar card (e-Aadhaar) from the UIDAI website.
