Union Budget 2025: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman wears white kasavu saree honouring Madhubani art

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's iconic sarees on Budget Day have always made news. This time, she entered the parliament house in white kasavu saree with a golden border and an intricate Madhubani painting. The saree is gifted by Padma awardee Dulari Devi.

Wearing a fish-themed embroidery and golden border saree, Sitharaman posed for the traditional 'briefcase' photo outside her North Block office, accompanied by her team of officials, before heading to meet the President.

With the tablet securely placed inside a red cover featuring a golden national emblem, her next stop will be Parliament, after her meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Dulari Devi was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021. When Finance Minster visited Madhubani for a credit outreach program at Mithila Art Institute, she met Dulari Devi and had a pleasant conversation about Madhubani art in Bihar. Dulari Devi had gifted the saree and urged FM to wear it on budget day.

A look at Sitharaman's saree in past budgets

2019: FM Sitharaman wore a pink Mangalgiri silk saree.
2020: She chose a yellow silk saree.
2021: For her third Budget, she adorned a Pochampally silk saree.
2022: The finance minister wore a Bomkai saree. 
2023: Sitharaman donned a vibrant red silk saree.
2024: Sitharaman wore a blue tussar silk saree.

Sitharaman will deliver the budget speech at 11 AM today, February 1 from a digital tablet enclosed in a traditional 'bahi-khata' style pouch.
