Budget 2024: A look at key budget allocations for various ministries announced by FM Nirmala Sitharaman

Budget 2024: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the interim budget on Thursday, February 1. This was her sixth Union Budget as Finance Minister, in which she made various announcements related to budget allocations for Defence, Rural Development, External Affairs and other ministries.

Defence Ministry

In the 2024-25 pre-election Budget, FM Sitharaman allocated Rs 1.77 lakh crore to the rural development ministry, marking a 12 per cent rise from the previous year's budget of Rs 1.57 lakh crore. The Women and Child Development (WCD) Ministry (WCD) has been allocated Rs 26,000 crore in 2024-25, i.e. - an increase of 2.52 per cent from the previous budget. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has been allocated a total of Rs 22,154 crore for the fiscal 2024-25 as against last year's outlay of Rs 18,050 crore. In the interim budget presented in Parliament, Nirmala Sitharaman allocated Rs 2,02,868.70 crore to the Ministry of Home Affairs with the highest share of funds going to the paramilitary forces like CRPF, BSF, and CISF. Roads and Highways Ministry
